2016-06-04 (Day 156) Caterpillar Web

Just recently the Wickes store in Stirling hit the press after some of the bushes outside it were covered in caterpillar web. But it’s not just in Stirling that the phenomenon occurs.

Here we have the same thing at Grangemouth Road near Bo’ness. The web covers about ten metres of hedgerow, and is apparently made in order to protect the young and to protect the food source (i.e. the hedgerow) from passing predators.

You can see a few of the caterpillars in this picture, along with some of the web where it sags between the higher branches of the hedg.
