On the way home I went through the village of Staveley, in Cumbria. I hadn’t planned to, but my desire to find a specific viewpoint and a couple of road closures meant that I wound up here.
I knew that the name rang a bell, but it wasn’t until I was in the village that I realised why. Staveley used to have a road bridge. Right where you are looking. But the bridge was washed away in the floods of December 2015, and hasn’t been replaced yet.
Shame – it’s a beautiful little village.
Eventually I gave up on my sightseeing and just got myself home!
