2024-11-29 (Day 334) Gilston Farm Works

I’m not sure how I feel about this one, honestly.

Ever since we moved to this area, in about 1996, there has been talk of development taking part on this farm, just over a mile from my house. Housing development, that is. It is a great place for housing; it’s just off the M9 and is a short walk from a railway station on the main Glasgow to Edinburgh line. It’s close enough to the countryside that you can walk there, yet it’s easy to get to any of the normal shops, pubs etc that we all rely on.

Anyway, after thirty years or more of discussions, planning permission has been granted and the work is underway. First of all earthworks, then the building. And however much the developers might tell us that it will be tasteful, with lots of green areas and habitat paths, it’s still more concrete and houses.

But we need more houses. Lots of them. And as I said above, it’s a great location.

I don’t suppose it really matters what I think, or indeed that I can’t make up my mind on what I think. It’s going to happen. Actually, it is already happening.

Hmm… I wonder what they’re going to do about the smell from the nearby landfill site?
