2025-02-04 (Day 035) Muiravonside Kirk

Through the trees and across the burn (actually a runoff from the Union Canal) is Muiravonside Kirk.

Believed to have been the site of a place of worship since the 12th century, the current kirk was built in the early 1800s. The Falkirk Local History website has a list of ministers at the kirk stretching from 1591 to 2019, but as far as I can make out the church building is not now used for regular worship, and has been amalgamated with other local churches to form the “Union Of Upper Braes Churches”.

Interestingly, the Union Of Upper Braes Churches website says that all worship takes place at “Brightons Ministry Centre (formerly Brightons Parish Church)” and “Slamannan Ministry Centre (formerly Slamannan Parish Church)”

What’s the deal with “Ministry Centres” – has the word “Church” gone out of fashion?
