With Christmas Day and Boxing Day over, I thought that it might be time for my wallet to get a bit of a rest.
Not a bit of it – the news that Aldi was selling ski wear was enough to get my wife into the car as soon as breakfast was finished. She dragged Eleanor and my mum along with her, and I was grudgingly allowed to come along so long as I played the role of chauffeur.
A small technical comment here. This picture would normally expose to make the picture a mid-grey. However, that would end up with the three ladies looking like silhouettes against the sky. By switching on my flash, I was able to get the camera to illuminate their faces, yet still keep the background looking good. This technique – fill flash – can often be useful if you’re taking a picture of people who are standing against something bright.
