2011-07-07 (Day 314) Rock Formation

We got up early today, had breakfast and got out of Dodge… well, out of Castellane anyway. Travelling on the Route de Napoleon, we saw amazing scenery that reminded us that these parts are used for ski-ing in the winter time. What colossal forces must have been in play here, to twist the striations in the rock on this mountain in the hills above Grasse?

Anyway, we eventually reached Nice, where we had booked for an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Resort. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, so to kill some time we went to the Beach Club that is operated by the same people as operate the hotel (Holiday Inns are generally not run by Holiday Inn, they are a franchise operation).

The beach club was like something out of American movies. We paid to get in, and were given a lounger each. A nice gentleman in white shirt and shorts brought us a cushion, and set up our chairs. We were then free to lie back and relax. Maybe order a drink too? Hmmm… at €5 for a coffee, perhaps not…

Later we got into the hotel, which was lovely, and dropped our stuff off. We went back to the beach and relaxed for a while, before it was dinner time. That was another shock to the wallet…
