This sign appeared outside the dance studio that I pass on my way from work to Asda, where I buy my lunch. It is a plea for people to vote for a Dalgety Bay group in an upcoming round of one of those interminable talent show TV programmes.

My opinion of these programmes is very low indeed – an opinion reinforced by reading Ben Elton’s book "Chart Throb". But equally, I have done just enough dancing to know that anybody who dances – even on a programme such as this – has done an incredible amount of work, and shown astonishing dedication throught their lives to their art, and so I would be inclined to support them.

Now, if only the dance studio would even offer adult jazz dance classes at lunch time…
