
This is Stirling Castle, taken from the road just north of Bridge Of Allan – so in fact we are looking pretty much due south here.
The castle is built on a huge rock called – unsurprisingly – Castle Hill.
What you don’t see from this is how flat much of the surrounding area is – Castle Hill dominates a surprisingly flat area of land (flat until you get to the Ochils, which rise startlingly quickly from the floor of the Forth Valley).
It was dry where I was standing, but I reckon it was raiing over the castle!
