2024-04-30 (Day 121) Ski Slope View

This is a view from the top of Polmonthill Ski Slope. We are at the south side of the Forth Valley here, looking approximately north east.

Obviously, the foreground is dominated by the industrial plant – I am never sure which part is the oil refinery and which is the petrochemical plant, but regardless it is an imposing sight and responsible for a ludicrously high proportion of Scotland’s industrial output!

Between the plant and the road there are some areas marked out with the kind of barriers you might see on a karting track – I’m not sure what – if anything – is going on there.

Closer still, at the bottom of the hill here you find some embankments that were part of the Antonine Wall, the of earth built by the Romans back in the 140s. And hidden from view is the Rover Avon.

The main river you can see is, of course, the Forth. And on the far side – the north side, you can perhaps pick out some housing. The portion that is at the waterside is the historical town of Culross. And up the hill from there is the more modern village of High Valleyfield.

Finally, if you look closely at the rightmost hill you might just spot a couple of radio towers. That is Knock Hill, just north of Dunfermline, famous for the motor racing circuit at its base.
