So it turns out that it’s a bad idea to put a can into the freezer and then forget about it. Impressively, the can didn’t explode, but the top and bottom did pop out a bit as the liquid inside expanded.

Why does water expand as it freezes? When I asked, the answer I got was “hydrogen bonding… it’s complicated.” So I left it at that.
