2024-11-20 (Day 325) Holytown War Memorial

There could be – heck, the internet being what it is I am sure there must be – a complete Project365 on photographing and visiting War Memorials. And it wouldn’t be such a bad project at that, there are so many of them, rightfully beautifully maintained throughout the country.

This one is in the Lanarkshire village of Holytown, at the junction of the Edinburgh Road and – unexpectedly – Bo’ness Road! It was unveiled in 1921, having been sculpted by Scott and Rae, who sculpted many war memorials throughout Scotland. Builder James Paterson put the whole thing together.
