Anyone remember text adventure games? And then The Hobbit appeared on the ZX Spectrum, with pictures as well as text. I played that for hours with a school friend, and still never got to the end of it.

Actually, I think that the only adventure game I ever got to the end of was Infocom’s Hitch-Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. Now, that was class. No pictures, but brilliantly descriptive writing and frustrating gameplay. I played it on my Amstrad CPC6128 running in CP/M+ mode and thought it was the most serious computer system around!

I’d better not try to find it online – I’m already really bad at posting my photo of the day!
