We were invited to a ceilidh in Alva this evening. It was great – it was the first time we’ve been at a ceilidh for … well, for ages … and we really enjoyed it. I didn’t manage to get any decent pictures from inside the ceilidh – it was dark and I only had my mobile phone – but we had a fantastic time and really enjoyed it. Thank you Heather!
In the absence of a photo from inside the ceilidh, this is the view looking north from the hall we were in. As far as I can make out, this is Craig Leith. Which sounds like someone’s name but is in fact the name of a hill in the Ochils. According to its Wikipeida page, Craig Leith is also known as the West Hill. And that same page says that a 1796 edition of the Statistical Accounts Of Scotland says that the rock at the summit “for what reason is not known, has obtained the name Craig Leith”.
I’m going to guess that it’s a crag from which you might be able to see the port of Leith? Almost certainly incorrect, but what the heck!
