I went to see my dad today, and on the way back came across I hadn’t travelled before, so gave it a spin to see where it went. Turns out it went to Easterhouse, a housing estate at the north east corner of Glasgow.
It turns out that this is another Andy Scott statue. Not made of plates of steel, in the way that Journey’s End or the Kelpies are, but shaped steel … what? bars? I’m not sure what you would call these.
The artwork was unveiled in 2001 and was a intended to be a symbol of hope to the local community, where it has been adapted as the logo of a local primary school.
I do have another version of the picture taken from a different angle, where it is easier to see the difference between the statue and the branches of the trees behind it, but I preferred this one, where the phoenix appears to be in and of the trees themselves.
