I had a very short wander around the Carron Valley Wildlife Park at Fankerton today (short like about ten minutes) and came across this beautiful spot.
This is the River Carron, which grows massively as it flows through Falkirk. At the top of the picture is a dam that apparently provided some power to a now-demolished paper mill nearby. I have struggled to find a lot of information about it (partly because I don’t even know the name of the place!). The best I have found is on an angling forum where people were contending that there was a legal requirement to install a fish ladder – whether this was ever done I do not know. It was not regarded as hugely significant because further upstream there is another waterfall that is naturally not navigable by fish, and it is in its natural state. The photos of that looked great, so I definitely want to go for the walk some time!
