Apparently my viewing habits are being watched. I didn’t ask for this, I didn’t opt in to this, and I didn’t consent to it. And if you think this is bad, you should see how much data is being sent upstream that you’re not told about!
If I buy a TV, it should NOT be sending data upstream to the manufacturer, the software developer, or anyone else. It should be my property, totally under my control and doing only what I ask it to do.
If I buy a car, it should not be sending data about me back to the car manufacturer. If I buy … oh, whatever, the only data that should be sent to a server is the data required to make a service work, unless I explicitly request otherwise.
This is my cue to go on a grumpy old man rant about Microsoft Accounts and Windows 11, and who knows what else. But we do need to find ways to allow us better, and easier-to-manage, control of our own data.
