There used to be a lot of wild rabbits in our area, then they suddenly disappeared. Previously you would go to the park at night and see hundreds of them, them in a very short space of time they just weren’t there any more. Looking back, I guess this may have been the 2015 outbreak of RVHD2 (Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease).
The rabbit population has since increased, though I’m not sure it’s back to previous levels. But it does appear that a new strain of RHVD2 is being seen throughout Europe. Let’s hope it doesn’t come across the channel and that this rabbit, which was keeping a close eye on me from a front garden as I took Tess for a walk, will avoid what sounds like a very nasty condition!
