2024-07-20 (Day 202) Carron Valley Reservoir

For some reason I have never been to the Carron Valley Reservoir – today I rectified this error. And I definitely intend to return.

Scotland suffered a serious drought in 1934, and in response the Stirlingshire and Falkirk Water Board created a massive new reservoir, here in the Carron Valley west of Denny. At the time the largest reservoir in the UK, it measures around 3½ miles long by 1½ miles wide, and a capacity of around 4.3 million gallons.

Today, as well as being an important part of the water system, the reservoir and its surroundings are a haven for nature as well as a magnet for walkers and cyclists, for anglers and nature lovers.

I do intend to get back here when the weather at least looks nicer. If you do want to go, be aware that you need £4 in coins for an all-day ticket to the the car park – I only had £1 in coins and was limited to one hour.

Oh, also the Duncarron Mediaeval Village is also here – that is somewhere else that I want to look (https://www.duncarronmedievalvillage.com).
